#540 Fastfood lunch, some vegan options, Frituur de Bosrand, Brugge

restaurant review #540 – Fries with veganaise! And more! This is a fastfood place (‘frituur’) at the edge of the city.

They have some vegan labelled snacks (see photo) and they fry in plantbased oil (which is still a rarity in Belgium unfortunately, mostly it’s animal fat or a combo).
We also saw another snack in the counter labelled as vegan (mexicano) and when we pointed to it, they said it was vegetarian, not vegan. ➡️ So double check! ⬅️

We had a burger (asked if bread was also vegan and was confirmed), vegan balls, a small fries and large fries, both with vegan mayo.
Order and pay at counter. Beeper lets you know when it’s ready. Clean off table yourself.

Fries and mayo very nice. Burger was disappointingly not a burger, but a breaded patty (with some vegs and mash inside). Came with some lettuce. Balls ok.

Lots of throwaway waste though (plastic).

There’s a rather large (for a frietkot) seating area in front – close together. Entrance is with very small ramp. Plenty of parking space.
There are toilets on the side, but didn’t visit.

Although Im not really a fan of this type of food, it’s great that they offer some vegan items.
Wish they would offer more though, like vegan stew sauce, vegan sausage, … (look at Tastebuds in Antwerp or Pepas vegan frituur in Leuven for inspiration 😉).

  1. It’s great to see more vegan options popping up, but the confusion over what’s truly vegan—like the mislabeled Mexicano—shows there’s still work to be done in clarity and variety. That said, your review of Frituur De Bosrand really takes me back! It perfectly reminds me of my time exploring Kathmandu’s Basantapur Newa Food Street during my Pokhara-Chitwan tour. Just like this place in Bruges, that food street is alive with authentic local flavors—crispy meat bara, spicy choila, and delicate chatamari—all made with care and tradition. The bustling streets, the fragrant spices, and warm smiles of vendors create a vibrant, unforgettable experience. Your post brings those memories rushing back, showing how food connects cultures and hearts across the world.
