restaurant review #596 – New discovery near Ghent!

When looking for options in the area, this restaurant came up, with some vegan labelled dishes on the menu.

Lovely stylish decor, spacious place, with 5 different kitchens (!) – from 5 different regios of the world. You don’t have to stick to one cuisine, but can make up your own menu and mix.

● Beiruti – Lebanese
● Yokoso – Japanese (sushis, sashimis etc)
● Lombardi pizza & pasta – Italian
● Chopped – bowls
● The rooster – grill – chicken dishes

Unfortunately few to no vegan options in the Italian nor grill kitchen. Chopped offered some possibilities (eg compose your own bowl). Yokoso had a 1 vegan option (vegan maki rolls) or we could opt to custom make them (via the online ordering system, which seemed too complicated, so I gave up).

Beiruti does have several clearly labelled vegan options (mezzes) and we asked for a vegan menu and just let them surprise us with the mezzes. 40€ pp.

For starters we added edamame 9€ and bruschetta with tomato and garlic 10€.
As I also really wanted to try some maki, we also ordered a small portion of ‘vegan heaven’ maki 8€ for 4 pieces.
The makis presented nicely, but unfortunately the rice tasted very watery. Bummer.

The vegan menu was 5 cold mezzes with flatbread, and 2 warm mezzes (potatoes and a folded bread with za’atar filling, this was very heavy!).

Would have loved to have some more variety in the warm mezzes though, 5 cold versus 2 warm was a bit unbalanced.

All and all rather on the expensive side for a selection of mezzes. But I guess one also pays for the decor! (And it is Latem afterall ;-)).
We did have a nice dinner, relaxed setting, friendly service.

Accessibility: small step to get inside, restaurant room on ground level, spacious. Two toilets, clean. Didn’t see an accessible toilet.
