Vegan bakery De Broodenier, Leuven

shop review#63 – De Broodenier is a vegan bakery in Leuven and opened in the Summer of 2020. Finally a vegan bakery in Belgium that offers and vegan pastry ánd vegan bread! There are already several traditional bakeries offering vegan options like Danish pastry (see Frimout in Ghent, Filip and Liraz in Kuurne) and many bakeries that offer cakes and pies (see Peas in Hasselt), but a traditional vegan bakery with bread and pastry is still a rarity in Belgium. De Broodenier is a run by brother and sister Michiel and Hilke. Hilke previously ran tea house T&Ko in Leuven, which I wrote about here.

A visit to vegan shop V.GAN, Brussels

Shop review #62 – A couple of weeks ago we stopped in Brussels on our way to Leuven for a visit to vegan shop V.GAN. It is located in Sint-Lambrechts-Woluwe, on the east side of Brussels. V.GAN is medium sized vegan shop. It has large section of cosmetics and wines. And the usual suspects like plantbased milk drinks, cereals, flours, bread spreads. Also a fridge section with tofu, seitan products, bread spreads and some other things. The freezer mainly contained vegan ice cream, and some Beyond Meat products. I was hoping to find some more items in the freezer.   We bought some items that are not so readily available in other shops, like large TVP chuncks and vegan ‘egg’ omelet from Soyana. A visit to zero waste shop Refill, Oudenburg

shop review #57 – Refill is a new zero waste shop in Oudenburg (close to Ostend). I was here with a friend a couple of weeks ago. Refill has a large collection of dispensers with nuts, seeds, dried fruits, and other bulk products. Also products like agave and cleaning products to refill. So bring your own boxes and bottles to fill! Also some vegan products in the fridge (burgers). Refill also sells vegan cake and muffins, and vegan labelled candy. I bought some nuts and vegan candy. First you have to weigh your container at the counter, label it, then fill it up, so the weight of the container isn’t included in the price. Also bought chocolate cake and a berry muffin. Very nice. Refill is a bright and modern shop. Everything seemed newely renovated. Pity it is not accessible though (several large steps to get in). Friendly lady at the counter. Refill is definitely a great addition to Oudenburg! Refill, location Hoogstraat 12, 8460 Oudenburg 0496 86 06 14 website: https://www.refilloudenburg.be/ See the list of shops, on The …

A vegan waffle place in Brussels: Veganwaf’

Shop review #56 – This new vegan waffle place just opened a couple of days ago. VeganWaf’ is not a tea room or restaurant where one can sit down, but a walk in food stall in the Galerie Agora, near the Central Market. On ground level, about 20 meter from the entrance. We were there on the first day it opened. VeganWaf’ only offers one type of waffle, which resembles the Liegeois type of waffle (sugary waffle). Waffles are gluten free and vegan and cost 3,50€ On the opening day, they only offerend banana or chocolate sauce as a topping, but I’ve seen that meanwhile they have added some more options. We loved the waffles! Great to have this new addition in the city center of Brussels.
