restaurant review 253 – Velusso is a bicycle themed café in ‘t Zilverpand, a small shopping center near ‘t Zand. Velusso is located in the corner of a square, with some benches outside. A very quiet and relaxed area in busy Bruges. We were on a bicycle trip to Bruges, so this was a fitting place to relax on the terrace!
restaurant review #240 – Nakhon Thai is located in the city center of Bruges, just 2 minutes from the central Market Square (Belfry). We were here for lunch a couple of months ago. We actually wanted to go to vegan restaurant De Brugsche Tafel, which is closeby, but unfortunately it was unexpectedly closed that day.
restaurant review #239 – Ellis Gourmet Burger is part of a chain of restaurants, with several locations in Belgium and the Netherlands. We had been to the Ellis in Louvain before and had the beet the roots burger then (see reviews of Ellis Gourmet Burger here). Since then, another vegan burger has been added to the menu: the Beyond Meat burger, so on this visit to the EGB in Bruges, we wanted to try the Beyond Meat burger.
restaurant review #235 – Brasserie Forestiere is a restaurant in the city center of Bruges, just a 5 minute walk away from the Belfry and central market. This was my second visit to Brasserie Forestière, the first visit dating back several years (one of the first reviews on my blog actually, see review here). I was here with a friend for a weekday lunch a couple of weeks ago. I had made a reservation (which is advised, the place was nearly full).
restaurant review #234 – We have visited Hashtag Food ( or #Food) in Bruges several times the last couple of years. Previous reviews, both from the old location in the city center, and the new location at Scheepsdale, can be seen here.
restaurant review #232 – The Gulliver Tree is not really a ‘restaurant’ but more a coffee / tea house. The Gulliver Tree also serves breakfast. and light lunch. Several vegan options are mentionned on the menu (or items that can be ordered vegan). It is located in the city center, just 2 minutes from the Belfry, in a side street from the Philip Stock streat.
restaurant review #218 – Domino’s is part of an international pizza chain. There are also several locations in Belgium. The Domino’s in Bruges is located just outside the train station. Domino’s is not a restaurant for elaborate dining, but more a take away place (there are a handful of seating places, and also a small terrace outfront). Domino’s also offers delivery in the Bruges area. Since 2018, Domino’s has two vegan pizzas standardly available: the pizza margaritha (12€) and the vegan spicy (13€). The pizzas were nice, but with a soft chewy crust though. They are made on the same counter as the non vegan pizzas, so if you are allergic, I think there might be cross contamination. restaurant review #215 – Otomat is part of a chain of restaurants in Belgium. The one in Bruges opened in the Summer of 2018. It is in the city center, on the Simon Stevin square. We were here a couple of weeks ago for lunch, in the Fall of 2018. Otomat has two vegan pizzas standardly available, each 13,9€. One with rucola and cauliflower (mega Vega), the other with yofu espuma (Las Vega), which is more spicy. So our choice was easily made! We also ordered a salad on the side (ask without the dressing). The pizzas were nice, but if you have a huge appetite this will not be filling. It would also be nice to have some vegan minced meat on the pizza, or tofu, or seitan on top, to add some more bite. It was good for a light lunch though. It’s a pity that none of the salads or appetizers is standardly vegan (you can ask a salad without the dressing, which we did). Ground level at Otomat Brugge is accessible, …
restaurant review #206 – Passion for Food is a Mediterranean restaurant in the city center of Bruges. I had seen it mentionned several times in facebook groups, and had been wanting to check it out for several years. With hardly any online info available about menu, opening hours etc (no website, nor active FB page) I was unable to check the menu before going. We were here for lunch a couple of months ago. We were warmly welcomed and choose to sit at the window. The menu is not very extensive, and there are some vegan options on the menu (labelled vegan). My husband had a salad as a starter (7€). We choose the tajine (15€) and couscous (16€) as main dishes. The dishes were ok, but a bit monotone. We would have liked it more spiced up. Passion for Food is a family run bussiness and that transpires in the atmosphere. There is only one person serving the tables, so when the restaurant is full, it can be a bit of a wait. Is not …
restaurant review #200 – Wow, time flies! When I started this blog at the end of 2013, I could never have imagined that I would one day publish restaurant review number 200 🙂 In those five years, the vegan scene in Bruges and Flanders and Belgium, has changed quite a lot! While there were only a handful of restaurants that served vegan options in 2013, the list with places in Bruges where one can now enjoy a vegan breakfast, lunch or dinner is steadily growing (list outside Bruges, see here). There’s of course still a lot of progress to be made, and many places remain very traditional and oldskool, but still, there is change and hope! Restaurant De Brugsche Tafel, in the city center is a great example of that evolution. This traditional family restaurant, run by Pol and Charlotte, used to serve the local classics: stew, mussles, steak. At the end of 2017 they added some vegan options to the menu. And only a couple of months later, in June 2018, the restaurant went …
