#220 The Beyond Meat Burger at Greenway, Leuven (3)

restaurant review #220 – Greenway is a Belgian vegetarian brand (restaurants and products) and was founded in the mid nineties. There are three Greenway restaurants in Belgium: in Ghent (it’s been ages since I was there!), in Louvain and in Antwerp. There’s also a Greenway foodstall at the train station of Gare du Midi, where we had a nice lunch before boarding on the Eurostar to London (previous reviews of Greenway here). In 2018, Greenway announced that all it’s restaurants would become fully vegan! This is from a visit at the Greenway in Louvain a couple of months ago (end of 2018). We’ve been to the Greenway in Louvain several times before, but on this occassion, we went to try the Beyond Meat burger, a new vegan burger that has been getting quite a few headlines lately for its supposedly ‘meaty’ taste and texture. Greenway in Louvain is in the city center, next to the Oude Markt (Parijsstraat). The Beyond Meat burger does live up to its reputation: it does taste really meaty! For some vegans this might be a deterrent, …

#202 Quick vegan bite on the terrace at Greenway, Antwerp (2)

restaurant review #202 – Greenway is a Belgian vegetarian brand (restaurants and products) and was founded in the mid nineties. This is from a visit to Greenway in Antwerp, at the beginning of Summer. The menu is on a board above the counter. One goes order at the counter, and then the food is brough to your table. We had a kebab wrap and a meat lovers burger. The potato wedges were sold out, so we got some tortilla chips. Afterwards we had a brownie with coffee. To my surprise, there was still an option for cow milk (although Greenway announced that all restos are vegan since April 2018). The food was nice, although I didn’t really fancy the …

Take a look around! Adding travel snapshots to reviews

A couple of weeks ago, I decided to add snapshots of the surroundings to blogposts. So whenever I publish a post with a review of a shop or restaurant, there are now not only photos of the restaurant, but also one or two photos, or even a short video, of the area. A city view, a particular monument, or a spectacular landscape. It gives you an idea of the surroundings (albeit just a glimp), and some of the things we have spotted during our visit to that city or area. And for me it’s also a way of documenting some memories from that particular city trip or visit! Here are some of the pics that were included in recent reviews. Some link to Instagram. #127 Burgers for lunch at Greenway, Louvain (2)

Restaurant review #127 – Greenway is a Belgian vegetarian brand (restaurants and products) and was founded in the mid nineties. There are three Greenway restaurants in Belgium: in Ghent (it’s been ages since I was there!), in Louvain (see blog) and in Antwerp (see blog). There’s also a Greenway foodstall at the train station of Gare du Midi, where we had a nice lunch before boarding on the Eurostar to London (see our blog here). This review is from a visit to the Greenway in Louvain in Spring of 2017. Greenway is in the city center, a short walk from the town hall and near the ‘old market’ place. It’s a nicely decorated place, lots of space, modern style. There are also some outdoor seating places in front of the restaurant. Vegan options are indicated on the menu and on the large board on the wall, where the daily suggestions are written. Service at Greenway is semi self-service: one orders and pays at the counter, taking your drinks to the table yourself, and then food is brought …

#101 Waiting for the Eurostar. Nice fastfood lunch at Greenway, train station Brussels

Restaurant review #101 – Reminder – GIVEAWAY to celebrate 100 restaurant reviews & 3 years The Bruges Vegan. Greenway is a Belgian vegetarian brand (restaurants and products) and was founded by Paul Florizoone in the mid nineties. The first Greenway restaurant opened in Ghent in 1996 and I vividly remember it opening at that time (I worked nearby and was thrilled!). Meanwhile there are three Greenway restaurants in Belgium (Ghent, Louvain and Antwerp) and a take-away/foodstall at the railway station of Bruxelles-Midi. I already blogged about the Greenway in Louvain and the Greenway in Antwerp. We stopped for lunch at the Greenway in the train station of Brussels on our way to Vegfest London (see our blog, with also a review of lectures from the intersectionality Conference HERE). We had some spare time before boarding the Eurostar to London, and were a bit anxious whether we would get any (decent) vegan food on the train ride to London, so decided to have something to eat at Greenway beforehand. Vegan options are clearly indicated on the menu. You order at the counter, …

#79 – Nice lunch at Greenway, Louvain ****

Restaurant review #79 – Greenway is a Belgian vegetarian brand (restaurants and products) and was founded by Paul Florizoone in the mid nineties. The first Greenway restaurant opened in Ghent in 1996 and I vividly remember it opening at that time (I worked nearby and was thrilled!). Meanwhile there are three Greenway restaurants in Belgium (Ghent, Louvain and Antwerp) and a take-away at the railway station of Brussels-Midi. I visited the Greenway in Antwerp a couple of weeks ago with a friend, and we had some lovely cakes (see blog here). It’s been a while since I’ve been to the ones in Ghent and Louvain, but we visited the Greenway in Louvain again for lunch recently. The Greenway in Louvain is located in the city center, just a short walk from the town hall. It’s a nicely decorated place, lots of space, modern style. Vegan options are indicated on the menu above the counter and on the large board on the wall, where the daily suggestions are written. We ordered at the counter – where you also get your drinks: a Mexican burger …

#76 – Light lunch at Wild Project, Antwerp ***

Restaurant review #76 – Wild Project is a new vegetarian Bistro in the center of Antwerpen, close to the city hall and Het Steen (the castle at the river Scheldt). I went here for lunch a couple of weeks ago with a friend. It’s a cosy little place, with a handful of seating places inside (I later discovered there is also room upstairs, but we didn’t see that). There’s also a sunny terrace in front. This what we had for lunch: fresh made juice and a hot ginger drink (3€ each). A vegan burger sandwich (9,5€) and a tofu sandwich (7€). Food was very nice. The burger didn’t really have a burger texture, but was more a patty of grains and vegs. 7,5€ and 9,5€ for the sandwich and burger is cheap for a main dish, but take into account they are not large portions (a lot of bread and not so much filling). This light lunch was more than enough for us, but If you have a big appetite though, I would suggest you maybe order two things. Atmosphere was relaxed, it’s …

#75 – A piece of cake (or three!) at Greenway, Antwerp ***

Restaurant review #75 – Greenway is a Belgian vegetarian brand (restaurants and products) and was founded by Paul Florizoone in the mid nineties. It’s been a while since I’ve been in the one in Ghent, but I have visited the Greenway in Louvain again recently for lunch (blog is coming up soon). On my visit to Antwerp a couple of weeks ago (where my friend and I also went on board one of Sea Shepherd’s ships that was docked in the harbor for a couple of days, see the blog here), we visited Greenway in Antwerp for some cakes. The Greenway is at de Groenplaats, which is in the city center, close to the cathedral and the city hall. There were three vegan cakes on offer, all made by Julie from Flockfoods, a new company making vegan pies, muffins and …
