#161 Vegan burgers and more at Flooh’s, Roeselare

restaurant review #161 – Flooh’s is a burger – fastfood type restaurant in the city center of Roeselare. Flooh’s has several vegan options (or vegetarian dishes that can easily be veganised) standardly available. We were here a couple of weeks ago for lunch. The ground level isn’t really big with the counter (where you order) and some bar stools to sit at, but besides that, the restaurant has two upstairs floors , with plenty of seating places. It’s a nicely renovated place, bright and modern interior. Vegan options are indicated on the large chalkboard at the counter. One standard vegan burger (the Bizarro), and three that can be veganised. Fries are baked seperatedly, in vegetable oil. Bread buns were said to be vegan (brown or white bun option). The lady running the place was very knowledgeable about ingredients and what vegan means, as she said to be vegan herself. Which was reassuring! We placed our order and went upstairs, to the second floor. Our food was said to be brought to the table (good thing, …

#155 Vegan lunch at De Kleinkeuken, Kortrijk (2)

Restaurant review #155 – De Kleinkeuken is a vegetarian restaurant in the city center of Kortrijk (Courtrai). We were here previously about a year ago (see review) and had a nice lunch (although with some points to consider, e.g. the waitress not knowing whether the bread was vegan). A couple of weeks ago, we visited De KleinKeuken again for lunch. We combined our visit to the Kortrijk region with some shopping at vegan shop tAK in Marke, and dropped in at Zonder Meer, a new waiste reduction shop in Kortrijk. Afterwards, we picked up a order for vegan Danish Pastry at Bakkerij Filip in Kuurne. A Saturday morning well spent ๐Ÿ™‚ The lunch menu consists of a salad bar (salad which you can compose yourself) or some hot dishes (with a special suggestions mentionned on the chalk board). Vegan options are clearly noted on the menu. This is what we had for lunch: Soup (courgette soup, large bowl, without bread – we asked about the bread and the waiter did confirm the bread is vegan …

#153 Burgers at Loving Hut Veganerie, Louvain (3)

restaurant review #153 – The Loving Hut Veganerieย is a vegan restaurant in Leuven (Louvain, close to Brussels) and part of the international chain of Loving Hut restaurants. There is also a smaller Loving Hut restaurant in Louvain (just around the corner!), and next to those two Belgian Loving Hut restaurants, there is also theย Viva Vega! Loving Hut Express, a fast food truck which you can encounter at festivals and other events (for example atย Vegan Summer Fest). There are already several reviews of Loving Huts we have visited up on the blog (see here). This is from a visit to the Loving Hut Veganerie in Leuven a couple of months ago. The Loving Hut Veganerie is more of a fastfood place.ย  One orders at the counter, and then an electronic device lets you know when your order is ready. Menu also consists of mainly ‘fastfood’ items, like burgers and wraps, and side dishes like potatoe wedges. This was our lunch: a smokey BBQ burger (9โ‚ฌ), 1 chicky cheezy (9โ‚ฌ), potato wegdes (3,50โ‚ฌ), with veganaise, calamares (3,80โ‚ฌ) …

#143 Vegan burgers for lunch at Season Square, Paris

restaurant review #143 – Season Square is a vegan fast food restaurant in Paris. It’s on the east side of town, just next to the Bibliothรจque Nationale (the National Library) and the Seine, on the other side of the Parc de Bercy. As such, it is a bit outside of the touristic center, and there are not many restaurants in the area. As we were in Paris for a concert at the Bercy (now called Accor Arena) and stayed not too far away, Season Square was our first stop, for lunch. Season Square is a bright, modern place, and serves burgers, bowls, soups and some desserts. They also offer take away. It is self-service (one orders at counter, take an alarm device with you to your table which beeps when your order is ready, and you can go pick up your order at the counter).ย There was no white wine available (they did have small bottles of red wine). There was free tap water avilable in bottles at a seperate counter (where the knives and forkes …

#135 Delicious lunch at Hashtag Food, Bruges (3)

restaurant review #135 – Hashtag Food is a bistro in Bruges, with vegan options standardly available. They are currently CLOSED and moving to the edge of the city, where they will reopen in november 2017. This review is from our last visit to the old location, in the city center.ย  We have visited Hashtag Food several times before, and you can read previous reviewsย here. This is what we had on our last visit: We loved the food! Everything is freshly prepared and the dishes are always beautifully presented. Very friendly service too. Total of our lunch for two was 91โ‚ฌ, which we think is fair and good value for money. Very much looking forward to visiting the new Hashtag Food!   #Foodย orย Hashtag Food,ย location OLD ADDRESS: Oude Burg 30 8000 Brugge / Bruges +32 (0)50 70 76 70 website:ย http://www.hashtagfood.be/ NEW ADDRESS, reopening November 2017: Scheepsdalelaan 37, 8000 Brugge. location View this post on Instagram In Bruges. #tandembike #multicycle #vegancyclist #bruges #visitbruges #cycling #belfry #canals #veniceofthenorth #brugestandem #tandembruges #multicycletandem #rozenhoedkaai #boattrip #inbruges A post shared by trudi_brugesvegan …

#133 Lunch at vegan brasserie 2eme Art, Paris

Restaurant review #133 – Brasserie 2eme Art is a vegan brasserie in the city center of Paris, in between the Louvre and the Centre Pompidou. We were here in June, when we were in Paris for a couple of days, before heading to Normandy. There is a large terrace in front of the brasserie. Tables are close next to each other though. Luckily, we were rather late for lunch, and there were not so many people on the terrace. It was blooming hot in Paris (nearly 40ยฐC) and we were happy there were some umbrellas offering shade (inside was rather full when we arrived). This is part of the menu at Brasserie 2รจme Art (there are also pizza’s available): PS: the red glow is because we were sitting underneath a red umbrella ๐Ÿ˜‰ For drinks we had fresh juice: one can choose fresh juices with different ingredientes, and I ordered carrot and apple (4,90โ‚ฌ). A beer was 3,90โ‚ฌ. Glass of wine 5โ‚ฌ. We also were served free tap water (refilled even). This is what we …

#132 Our dinners at veggie bistro De Plaats, Bruges

Restaurant review #132 – De Plaats is a vegetarian restaurant in the city center of Bruges, close to the central market square and the Belfry (where restaurant Lotus used to be). De Plaats literally translates as ‘The Place’. De Plaats opened in 2016, and we had been eager to go check it out for several months. This review is from two visits, respectively in April and May 2017. The menu lists 10 dishes, of which about half are vegan (clearly indicated). We ordered some drinks (wine was said to be vegan), which came swiftly. We had the lentil dish (15โ‚ฌ) and the vegan burger with potatoes (14โ‚ฌ). The food was good, but we were culinairy a bit underwhelmed by the dishes, all in all just being a pre-bought burger and falafels (from La Vie est Belle), with lentils and potatoes, and salad on the side. ย Something we would also eat as a weekday meal at home, when we don’t have the time nor motivation to cook up something more fancy and just flip a storebought …

#124 Fancy a double burger? Vegan Junk Food Bar, Amsterdam

restaurant review #124 – Vegan Junk Food Bar is a new place in Amsterdam (opened Spring 2017). It is located just north of the Vondelpark, overlooking a quiet square. Well the name says it all! It’s all vegan and it’s junkfood! ๐Ÿ™‚ There’s a small terrace in front of the restaurant and some beach chairs. When we arrived, all seats were taken, but soon after, some people left from the terrace, and we could sit outside (it was a very hot day in Amsterdam and we were glad to be sitting on the shady terrace!). It is semi self service: one orders at the counter and then the food is brought to your table. This is what we had: a double sumo burger (9,50โ‚ฌ, with two burgers, cheese, fried onion rings, lettuce, baked onions and sauce) and the shoama sandwich (8,50โ‚ฌ). Two portions of fries on the side, one with mayo and one with garlic sauce (3โ‚ฌ + sauce 0,75โ‚ฌ, each). For drinks we had several lemonades and a coke (ranging between 2,50 and 3โ‚ฌ) …

#121 Lunch at Vegan bistro Gare du Nord, Rotterdam

restaurant review #121 – Gare du Nord is a vegan bistro in Rotterdam (the Netherlands)ย not so far from the main train station. The restaurant is in an old restaurant train coach, with plenty of outdoor seating in front. For those not so fluent in French: Gare du Nord literally means ‘the train station of the north side‘. Gare du Nord was closed for a while in the passed year, but has reopened again in Spring of 2017. We were here a couple of weeks ago for lunch. It was a blooming hot day, and we were relieved to see there were large parasols outside so we could sit in the shade. It would have been impossible to have lunch inside the train coach, as it seemed even hotter inside than outside (I went in to have a look and take some pics). The train coach is permanently stationned on a town square, with a herb garden next to it. Although it is not so far from the busy city center, it was very quiet and …

#120 Fast food dinner at Loving Hut Veganerie, Louvain (2)

Restaurant review #120 –ย The Loving Hut Veganerie is a vegan restaurant in Leuven (Louvain, close to Brussels) and part of the international chain of Loving Hut restaurants. There is also a smaller Loving Hut restaurant in Louvain (just around the corner!), and next to those two Belgian Loving Hut restaurants, there is also the Viva Vega! Loving Hut Express, a fast food truck which you can encounter at festivals and other events (for example at Vegan Summer Fest or Fair Festival). We already posted a review of The Loving Hut Veganerie in the beginning of 2016 (see restaurant review #60). The Loving Hut Veganerie is a fastfood type restaurant, with self service: one orders at the counter, where you get an alarm device that notifies you when your order is ready and you get go pick it up at the counter. Afterwards one is supposed to put the trays and trash away. The menu consists of fastfood style dishes, ranging from burgers to wraps, but there are also salads available. There are also several vegan …
