restaurant review #484 – I’ve been to several Hawaiian poke bowl restaurants (Oostende, Bruges, Gent, Kortrijk, Leuven and also in Tilburg) and mostly it’s very good!

#481 Indonesian ricetable at Javaans eetcafé, Groningen (NL)

restaurant review #481 – Whenever we are in the Netherlands, we always try to visit an Indonesian restaurant. 😊There’s always vegan options available and the cuisine is delicious! In this restaurant, there’s a vegetarian ricetable and rice dish on the menu.I had specified we wanted a vegan ricetable when making the reservation online, a couple of days before. Service was rather reserved. When we were seated at our table, we noticed kroupouk on the table, and when ordering (and repeating we wanted a vegan rice table), the waiter said the kroupouk & sauce was not vegan and he would bring a replacement (we normally get emping or cassave crackers at Indonesian restos). The replacement however never came … The ricetable came swiftly. No heaters on the table to keep the food warm (as is usually the case in Indonesian restaurants).Food was nice, but not extraordinary, and at 29,75€ pp very steep!! Nicely decorated place, loved the cat statues. Not accessible: very steep ridge when entering, no accessible toilet. Paper towels at toilets to dry ones hands.Large …

#479 Great breakfast, very basic accomodation, Hotel Nicolay, Zeltingen GER

restaurant review #479 – Vegan Hotel at the Moselle in Germany! We were here for a couple of nights in the Fall of 2023. Breakfast buffet was lovely. Lots of things to choose from, cereals, fruits, jam, slices, pate, spread, …No tofu scramble or other hot dishes, or Danish pastry, which would make it complete! Breakfast is in 2 shifts, and you have to notify the day before if you want the early shift or the later one. A bit of a pity, one of the pleasant things of being on holiday is just waking up when you want to, no alarm clock. Apparently some rooms in the hotel have been recently renovated, but our room clearly wasn’t. Judging by the bathroom and furniture, I think it stems from the late 1970’s? Which also means poor insulation, and you can hear traffic from the road as if the window is open. The room was very basic, with some furniture wore down. Fridge dirty and not working (was mentioned and apologised for by the owner, but …

#478 Schnitzel and Flammkuche at Die Sonnenuhr, Zeltingen (GER)

restaurant review #478 – Die Sonnenuhr is one of the restaurants of vegan hotel Nicolay, in the south west of Germany (Moselle region). We had dinner here twice, while staying at the hotel (visit in Fall of 2023 – REVIEW following this one).

#477 Nice lunch, vegan clearly labelled, Suikerkist, Breda (NL)

restaurant review #477 – Large place, in city center, with vegan options clearly labelled. There are several places in Breda, but not that many open for lunch, on a Monday! Had the Food came swiftly and was good! Way too much, we over ordered (sometimes a bit confused by the lunch options in the NL, one serving seems too little, two – too much!) 😄 but we managed to finish it all, except for the bread that came with the croquettes (took it with us). Very spacious outdoor seating. Not accessible, steps to get in. Old building.Toilet upstairs. There was nothing to dry one’s hands after washing. So how do staff do this? #hygieneplease From a visit in May 2024, when we drove to Amsterdam for the show of TOOL 😎🤟, which was awesome (one song on my youtube! ) Suikerkist Havermarkt 2 4811 WG Breda Nederland website: https://suikerkist.nl/ Looking for restaurants? ~ 450+ personal restaurant reviews ~ See my lists of restaurants where vegans are welcome in the menu section of The Bruges vegan! #475 Traditional ‘frietkot’ with some vegan options, Friethuisje Groene rand, Maria-Aalter

restaurant review #475 – This frietkot is in between Bruges and Ghent, in a more rural area. We had tried visiting here once before, but it was on a Sunday evening, and really crowded inside then, so we left.
