Bruges is visited by millions of tourists each year. Some only spend one day in Bruges, others come for a short city trip and stay overnight, possibly combined with excursions to other touristic hotspots in Flanders, like Flanders Fields or the coastal area.
As I live near Bruges myself, I hardly know any places to stay overnight (or at least, not well enough to recommendend any).
To my surprise, I saw a vegetarian bed and breakfast listed on Happy Cow last year, called AM/PM. And through some mutual friends, I also heard that the hosts of the B&B, Tiny and Kevin, are more and more exploring veganism, and that they also serve vegan breakfast! (NOTE: see update below)
As such, I asked them if I could pay them a visit, to take a look inside! And so a couple of weeks ago, I had a nice chat with host Tiny, about the renovation of the house, their journey to veganism and their experiences with running a bed & breakfast in Bruges!

Front of B&B AM/PM (with the beige and brown tiled mosaic pattern and large glass window on top), Bruges
Bed & breakfast AM/PM is located at the Smedenpoort, which is just at the edge of the city center, about 10 minute walk to ‘t Zand. AM/PM is in a small cul de sac street, overlooking a canal and a small parc, so hardly any traffic here!
The house is nicely renovated, with a wonderful combination of new and old elements (Kevin is an architect and designed the renovation, while Tiny works at the art academy of Bruges). Although the front of the house is rather small, it’s amazing how much space there is inside, with the living and breakfast room stretching all the way to the back. The lay-out is cleverly designed with a digital code-access to the hallway and breakfast area.
There are four rooms to let – two on each floor. Two larger ones facing the parc and the canal, and the two other ones at the back of the house. Each room with its own bathroom and shower, and its own colour pattern.
For people with mobility issues: one aspect to take note of, is that there’s no lift, and access to the house and rooms is with stairs.
Bed & breakfast AM/PM exists since 2006, and has been vegetarian from the start (with also glutenfree options). As the hosts are going vegan themselves, breakfast is now nearly all vegan (also vegan bread available), and possibly they will turn the Bed & breakfast into an all vegan one in the future. There are for example no wool carpets (also to avoid allergies) and duvets are without animal feathers. Tiny is also looking into vegan options for the body and care products.
Breakfast is at a communal table downstairs. And the buffet has the usual suspects: cereals, plant based milk drinks, (homemade) bread and sandwiches and jam and other spreads, fresh fruit, and coffee or tea (they used to serve eggs, but don’t anymore).
In sum: although I haven’t stayed there overnight myself, it surely seems like a nice place for a citytrip to Bruges! And it was a pleasure to meet Tiny! Thanks for the chat and letting me take a look inside!

The little house my husband and I rented a few years ago is no longer available, so we’ve been looking for a place to stay when we (hopefully) visit next spring. I’m bookmarking your post for when the time comes; this looks simply beautiful and very cozy. THANK YOU for this wonderful recommendation, Trudi!
