#46 Nice vegan pub food at The Prince George in Brighton (UK) ****

Restaurant review #46 – The Prince George is a vegetarian Pub in Brighton, in the south East of England. It is in the city center, about 5 minutes by foot from the train station.
Brighton is a vibrant but also quite touristic place, with lots of opportunities for vegans (that is also the main reason why we choose to go there). I will putย a more general post about our visit to Brighton up later. And there are several restaurant reviews coming up, as we defintely ate a lot! ๐Ÿ™‚

We were a bit anxious to dine at the Prince George, as we thought it may be with loud music and too crowded, but it was a very relaxed and enjoyable experience. There were plenty of other people in the pub, but the arrangements of the seatings sideways in seperate ‘chambers’ easily allows for decent conversations. Hard seatings though and also small and rather instable tables!

The interior seems to us like a typical English pub, but what’s different of course is that it is a vegetarian pub! And luckily also withย several vegan dishes standardly available. They are clearly marked on the menu (see the photo). The wine list also clearly lists which drinks are vegan, which is something we haven’t seen in any restaurants in Belgium!

We were hungry. So we ordered a lot (extra potato wedges and fries). We had no idea the portions were going to be this voluminous, so we had way too much!

This is what we had.ย Falafel, Hummus and salad with tahini, coriander pesto and harissa (ยฃ6,50) andย the baked Burrito – the vegan option (ยฃ9). It took some time to be served, but the waiter had warned us in advance about that.

We liked it a lot (only downer was the burrito was only luke warm).ย Ok, it’s not haute cuisine, it’s pub food, and lots of fried things.
But all in all, we had an enjoyable evening out and we thought it was good value for money! Cheap even, considering other pricesย around Brighton!

  1. A vegetarian pub. Now that’s cool!… I wish the pubs around us offered something (anything) vegan, besides fries.

    • I hear you. This was on our holiday in Brighton (UK).
Around here it is also not so easy to find something vegan in a pub or bistro. And the fries are even most often baked in animal fat in Belgium! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
