#241 Loved the food at Veggieburger by Biocenter, Barcelona

restaurant review 241 – Veggieburger by Biocenter is a vegetarian restaurant in the food court of a shopping mall in Barcelona. It doesn’t really sound attractive, but these burgers were some of the best we ever had! Veggieburger by Biocenter is located near the Poblenou district (Avenu Diagonal) close to the University where we went to the conference of the European Association of Critical Animal Studies. The food court is located in the basement (-1 floor) and the Veggie Burger stand is on the far side, next to the meat court unfortunately. Vegan options are clearly labelled on menu.

Bags and more! Cuco Vegan Fashion, Barcelona

shop review #60 – We were wondering around the Barri Gotic area (the historical city center) in Barcelona and discovered this vegan shop by accident. What a nice discovery! Cuco Vegan fashion opened end of 2018 and has a nice collection of bags, backpacks, wallets, purses  and more.

Beautiful cakes and more at vegan bakery La Besnéta, Barcelona

Shop review #59 – La Besnéta is a little bakery in the Gracia area in Barcelona.

#231 Delicious dinner at vegan restaurant Roots & Rolls, Barcelona

Restaurant review #231 – Roots & Roll is a fairly new vegan restaurant (openend Summer 2018) in the heart of Barcelona. It is located in the Eixample area, about a 10 minute walk from the Sagrada Familia. We were here a couple of weeks ago, during our stay in Barcelona for the 6th Conference of the European Association of Critical Animal Studies.

A look inside vegan shop Cal Veganic, Barcelona

Shop review #58 – We were in Barcelona a couple of weeks ago (for the EACAS conference, see here) and on the last day we spent the morning in the Poblenou area. I love discovering vegan shops in other cities/countries, as it’s always an opportunity to discover new products. And also have a chat with the owners and other vegans 😉

#198 Quick lunch at vegan feminist center La Raposa, Barcelona

restaurant review #198 – La Raposa is a vegan feminist community center (with book store) and bar/resto, near Parc Mont Juic in Barcelona (more reviews of Barcelona HERE). This is from a visit to La Raposa a couple of months ago (beginning 2018). We visited after going to nearby Parc Mont Juic. There are not a lot of vegan (friendly) places in the area, so we were excited to visit this vegan feminist meeting bar/place! Yeah! Our enthousiasm was a bit tempered after entering though. The menu is written on chalkboard next to bar (in Spanish – or Catalunyan). We were addressed in Spanish (or Catalunyan), and as we didn’t understand, asked whether they spoke English, but got a rather annoyed roll of the eyes and sigh back. In our best Spanish-ish, we did manage to order some drinks and hummus and a plat du jour, which was with pasta. The burger was not available that day. The food was very nice (and cheap). The hummus came with bread and some crackers. The plat du jour was not a …

#190 Pizza and crema Catalana at Vegetalia Born, Barcelona

restaurant review #190  – Vegetalia is a vegetarian restaurant in the city center of Barcelona, with several locations in the city (Gotico, Raval, Born).  We went to the one in Born, in the historic city center of Barcelona. Vegetalia Born is at the corner of a square at the Basilica de Santa Maria del Mar, and sitting at the window, we had a nice view on the square. This review is from a visit a couple of months ago, during our short trip to Barcelona (More reviews of Barcelona HERE). We arrived here a bit after lunch time. Vegatalia Born is a busy place, but there were some empty tables. There was a mixed public of young and old, and I think a lot of visitors were locals (not tourists). Vegan options are indicated on the menu. There are also fresh juices available. We were served some egg plant (free appetizer). We had a glass of wine (3,50€) and juice (4,20€) and some olives (2,60€). We ordered a vegan pizza (9,50€) and the catalan creme, …

#187 Delicious dinner at vegetarian restaurant Rasoterra, Barcelona

restaurant review #187 – Rasoterra is a vegetarian restaurant in the old city center of Barcelona (More reviews of Barcelona HERE). It often pops up as one of the best places to go dining on vegan or vegetarian lists of Barcelona – or even the world! So we really wanted to visit Rasoterra. I made a reservation when we passed by the day before, which was absolutely necessary, as many other patrons were turned away during the evening we were there. We could choose between a menu, or choose our dishes seperately. The waiter informed us that the dishes are more tapas style, and suggested we order several smaller dishes, which were to share. A great idea! That way, one gets to taste more dishes than just a main course. There’s more variety. This is what we had for dinner (this came down to 61€ for 6 courses, shared by two persons, or 30,5€ per person, which we found very reasonable!) Free hummus appetizer Croquettes with spinach (8€) Trinxat potatoes (8€) Autumn: sweet and purple potato and …

#181 Vegan dinner at Teresa Carles, Barcelona

restaurant review #181 – Teresea Carles is a vegetarian restaurant in the city center of Barcelona. We went here for dinner a couple of months ago. Teresa Carles has several locations (not all vegetarian), and sell several products under the name (Teresa Carles olive oil, juices, ..) so it is more than just a restaurant, but a ‘brand’. I had made a reservation online, and we were seated at a table with my name card present (see photo). On one side seating was a large bench, on the other side a wooden chair (both not so comfortable). There are several juices available. I had the vegan vampire juice (5,95€) and it came bottled (you can also buy it at the front of the restaurant, to take away). Water was 1,95€. Vegan options are clearly indicated on the menu. This is what we ordered for dinner (both main dishes were specials of the month). We shared the bruchette as an appetizer. Bruchetta with ‘tuna’ (7,95€) Freak & Do: seitan with fricando sauce (12,50€) Popeye lasagne: spinach, pumkin …

#176 Lovely lunch at vegan food and cocktail bar Floripa, Barcelona

restaurant review #176 – Floripa is a vegan food and cocktail bar in city center of Barcelona. It is located a short walk north west of Placa de Catalunya. We visited a couple of months ago, on our last day in Barcelona. (More reviews of Barcelona HERE). — Update: see below Despite it being a drowsy and grey day, the interior of Floripa gave a warm and welcoming feeling. Bright colours and joyfull design! There is one area in the front with natural light coming in, another area at the back that is darker (we were seated here, hence my photos of the food didn’t turn out quite well), but with changing light colours in the ceiling. We also liked the music! We shared bruchettas (5,40€) as an appetizer. Then we had the nippon Burger (11,90€), and the crispy chicken tempeh burger (9,90€). Afterwards, we shared a chocolate mousse (4,90€) for dessert. There is local beer from draft available (2,5€). Glass of wine was 3€. The nippon burger was more of a patty, the chicken burger …
