#161 Vegan burgers and more at Flooh’s, Roeselare

restaurant review #161 – Flooh’s is a burger – fastfood type restaurant in the city center of Roeselare. Flooh’s has several vegan options (or vegetarian dishes that can easily be veganised) standardly available. We were here a couple of weeks ago for lunch. The ground level isn’t really big with the counter (where you order) and some bar stools to sit at, but besides that, the restaurant has two upstairs floors , with plenty of seating places. It’s a nicely renovated place, bright and modern interior. Vegan options are indicated on the large chalkboard at the counter. One standard vegan burger (the Bizarro), and three that can be veganised. Fries are baked seperatedly, in vegetable oil. Bread buns were said to be vegan (brown or white bun option). The lady running the place was very knowledgeable about ingredients and what vegan means, as she said to be vegan herself. Which was reassuring! #157 Nice and voluminous Mexican lunch at Noorderhuis, Roeselare

restaurant review #157 Noorderhuis is a Mexican restaurant in the center of Roeselare. Noorderhuis does not sound very ‘Mexican’ (it literally translates as ‘the Northern House’ 😉 ), but it is located in the Noordstraat (a shopping street north of the market), hence the name. We were on our way back from the vegan market in Lille (France). I phoned Noorderhuis beforehand to check whether they serve a vegan lunch (I had seen it mentioned on social media, but wanted to double check to be sure), and it was said to be no problem. So we stopped in Roeselare on our way home. It was a quiet Sunday and a reservation didn’t seem to be necessary (still plenty of space in the restaurant). Vegan options are clearly labelled on the menu, and the waiter also mentioned we could get the lunch menu vegan (25,50€, for a starter, main course and coffee or tea).  And so we did! We asked the waiter why Noorderhuis now has vegan options, and he replied that the chef is vegan. So …

A visit to organic shop Biovita in Roeselare

Shop review #9 – Biovita is a new organic shop in Roeselare (41km from Bruges). It opened at the end of 2014. Biovita now has three shops: two in Bruges, and this one in Roeselare. Biovita is not an all-vegan shop, but they do have many vegan products available that you will not find so easily in other ‘regular’ shops. For example vegan cheeses, icecream or non dairy milkdrinks, tempeh, silk tofu, nuts, seaweeds, etc. They also clearly label the products as being vegan, lactose free or gluten free (but as you know, it’ always best to check and double check). Roeselare is too far for us to go shopping on a regular basis (the two shops in Bruges are of course closer to us). But we were in the neighbourhood a couple of weeks ago and paid them a visit!
