#135 Delicious lunch at Hashtag Food, Bruges (3)

restaurant review #135 – Hashtag Food is a bistro in Bruges, with vegan options standardly available. They are currently CLOSED and moving to the edge of the city, where they will reopen in november 2017. This review is from our last visit to the old location, in the city center.  We have visited Hashtag Food several times before, and you can read previous reviews here. This is what we had on our last visit: We loved the food! Everything is freshly prepared and the dishes are always beautifully presented. Very friendly service too. Total of our lunch for two was 91€, which we think is fair and good value for money. Very much looking forward to visiting the new Hashtag Food!   #Food or Hashtag Food, location OLD ADDRESS: Oude Burg 30 8000 Brugge / Bruges +32 (0)50 70 76 70 website: http://www.hashtagfood.be/ NEW ADDRESS, reopening November 2017: Scheepsdalelaan 37, 8000 Brugge. location View this post on Instagram In Bruges. #tandembike #multicycle #vegancyclist #bruges #visitbruges #cycling #belfry #canals #veniceofthenorth #brugestandem #tandembruges #multicycletandem #rozenhoedkaai #boattrip #inbruges A post shared by trudi_brugesvegan …

#122 Another fabulous dinner at Réliva, Bruges (5)

Restaurant review #122 – Restaurant Réliva is one of the few places in Bruges that standardly offers a vegan menu. It is not an all vegan restaurant, but since the start (2012) they have served vegan dishes. We’ve been here several times over the years, and it is always a delight to go dining here. Previous reviews of Réliva on The Bruges Vegan are here. (see updates below!) The interior has changed a bit over the years, and there’s also a large terrace in the back. We’ve never had the chance to dine on the terrace, as it was always cold or rainy when we visited. Definitely will try to visit on a nice Summer evening in the coming months, so we can enjoy the terrace! This review is from our last visit, a couple of weeks ago (Spring 2017). The vegan menu is still 35€ (starter, main dish and dessert). When ordering a la carte it is a bit more expensive (see prices listed, total of 43€ for 3 courses). For starters we had the …

Adding stars to my restaurant reviews

I have been contemplating this for a while, but decided to finally add stars to the restaurant reviews on The Bruges Vegan. (update Fall 2017: I stopped doing this – see below). In favour of adding stars: It is an easy way to give an ‘overall’ impression of a restaurant I can add it to the title of the restaurant review, so that immediately gives you an indication of our experience (either good or bad). Against adding stars: I find it difficult to score on a 5 star scale (but halves would complicate it too much) I feel al lot of places will fall in the 3 to 4 category People might only judge by the given star, and not read the review anymore (if they ever did 😉 ) A score is a medium of different aspects: food, comfort, service, hygiene, opening hours, etc. Foodwise it might be a 5 star, but comfortwise it might only be a 1 star, so that levels the score. My rating may change over time, as my assessment also evolves the more …

#101 Waiting for the Eurostar. Nice fastfood lunch at Greenway, train station Brussels

Restaurant review #101 – Reminder – GIVEAWAY to celebrate 100 restaurant reviews & 3 years The Bruges Vegan. Greenway is a Belgian vegetarian brand (restaurants and products) and was founded by Paul Florizoone in the mid nineties. The first Greenway restaurant opened in Ghent in 1996 and I vividly remember it opening at that time (I worked nearby and was thrilled!). Meanwhile there are three Greenway restaurants in Belgium (Ghent, Louvain and Antwerp) and a take-away/foodstall at the railway station of Bruxelles-Midi. I already blogged about the Greenway in Louvain and the Greenway in Antwerp. We stopped for lunch at the Greenway in the train station of Brussels on our way to Vegfest London (see our blog, with also a review of lectures from the intersectionality Conference HERE). We had some spare time before boarding the Eurostar to London, and were a bit anxious whether we would get any (decent) vegan food on the train ride to London, so decided to have something to eat at Greenway beforehand. Vegan options are clearly indicated on the menu. You order at the counter, …

#100 Vegan fine dining at Vanilla Black, London (UK)

Restaurant review #100 – Reminder – GIVEAWAY to celebrate 100 restaurant reviews & 3 years The Bruges Vegan. Vanilla Black is a vegetarian restaurant in city center of London, near the Royal Courts of Justice. It is located in a small quiet alley. It is one of the more expensive vegetarian restaurants in London, and offers fine gastronomical dining. We telephoned to make a reservation for the same evening and that was no problem, although we had to be early (6PM all later hours were fully booked). We received a vegan menu card and also a vegan wine list. Nice! We ordered the 3 course vegan menu and could each choose different meals, even nicer! The 3 course dinner was £41,50. We started with a glass of champagne (drapier, £9,75). Water was £3,95, glass of wine was £9,75 (quite expensive drinks!). Here’s what we had for dinner. It was too much too take notes of all the ingredients, but every dish was very nice. Service was also very swift and friendly. Toilets downstairs were clean, although a bit unorderly. …

#96 Lovely dinner at raw vegan restaurant Nama Foods, London (UK)

Restaurant review #96 – Nama Foods is a raw vegan restaurant in the city of center of London. It is located in one of the quieter streets of Notting Hill. After after having spent all day at Vegfest London on Saturday, we phoned to make a reservation and shortly afterwards headed to the restaurant. We were seated upstairs which is the ground level (there’s also a downstairs in the basement) We didn’t order an appetizer because we had already tasted several lovely vegan foods at VegFest. Update  – see below For drinks we had a glass of (vegan of course) prosecco (£7) and a freshly pressed juice ‘Internal radiance’ (carrot, orange, peer, lemon, turmeric, sea buckthorn oil) (£6). We ordered the vegan sushi (£14) and a specialty of the day being a terrine (14,50). The desserts looked very appetising so we could not resist. We had the pie of the day and the hazelnut moccha torte (each £7,50) and a capuciono (£3,2). All the food was presented very nicely and tasted very good! The staff was very friendly and welcoming …

#87 – Vegan fine dining at Tian (Vienna), a gastronomic feast! *****

Restaurant review #87 – Tian is a gastronomical vegetarian restaurant in the city center of Vienna (one Michelin star). It is located in between the Stadtpark and the Stephansplatz, near the Ring around the inner city. We made a reservation through the website of Tian for a Saturday evening. A good thing we made the reservation, beacuse several patrons were turned away on the evening itself! (see other reviews from our trip to Vienna). It was a very nice Summer evening and we were suggested a seat on the terrace in front of the restaurant. Although located in a quiet street, there is a theater across the street, which made it a bit busy at times. At one point there was a coach standing stationary with the motor running in front of the theater (bringing people to the evening performance), which was somewhat unpleasant, but otherwise we had a lovely evening. It was perfect Summer weather for outside dining! The waiter suggested a glass of champagne and we went for it! (it was very, VERY expensive: 16 euro for …

#67 Lovely vegan dinner at Réliva, Bruges (4) *****

Restaurant review #67 – Restaurant Réliva is one of our favourite places to go dining out in Bruges. It is not an all vegan restaurant, but one of the few places in Bruges where there’s standardly a vegan menu available. We have been here several times over the years, which is quite often actually, since it only opened in 2012! I have already written three reviews of restaurant Réliva. You can find those reviews, with many more photos of the food, the interior, and also the terrace at the back here. This review is from a visit in February 2016, when we were there with friends. There is a 3 course vegan menu (35€) or you can choose from two vegan starters and three vegan main courses. We were glad to see the menu had changed since our last visits, and were eager to try out the new dishes! For drinks I had a fresh vegetable juice 6€. Tonic was 2,50€. Our friends had a bottle of bio-vegan rosé, Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo (25€). Good to see they have vegan labelled wine available, one …

#57 Fabulous lunch at #HashtagFood in Bruges *****

Restaurant review #57 – Hashtag Food opened in 2014. It is in the city center, about 5 minute walk from the main market square, close to the shopping street and just around the corner of Simon Stevinsquare. (Update: see below, new address since end 2017, now at edge of city) It’s a bright and very spacious place (they could have easily cramped in another half a dozen or so tables, but luckily they didn’t. Now you can breathe!). It looks hip and trendy! The table place mats are old records, which immediately gives you something to talk about 🙂 As do the names of the dishes! The menu is more bistro style (note that it also closes at 8PM). There are several vegan items standardly available, and some dishes that can easily be veganised. You can see the menu (in English) here. The chef did tell us that the menu changes every once in a while, and there would be a vegan pasta available soon. Both the waiter and the chef were very friendly and knowledgeable about what vegans means, which gave us …

#49 Fantastic dinner at Terre à Terre, Brighton, UK *****

Restaurant review #49 – A couple of weeks ago, we spent some days in and around Brighton, in the southeast of England (UK). Brighton is a vibrant but also quite touristic place. I will put a more general post about our visit to Brighton up later. And there are several restaurant reviews coming up, as we defintely ate a lot! Brighton is known to be a hub for vegans, with several vegan and vegan friendly restaurants. That is also the main reason why we choose to go there this Summer! Terre à Terre is a more upstyle restaurant in Brighton. It is a vegetarian restaurant, with lots of vegan options standardly available. When I asked in vegan groups about definitely must places to visit, Terre à Terre was mentioned several times, so we really didn’t want to miss this! Hence, I already made the reservation (online) about a week beforehand, which is defenitely a must, since options for that Saturday evening were already getting limited. It is located in the city center, not far from the famous …
