#252 Pizza with a view: Mediamatic ETEN, Amsterdam (NL)

restaurant review #252 – Mediamatic ETEN is the restaurant of Mediamatic Biotoop, an arts center organising lectures, workshops and art projects, focusing on nature, biotechnology and art+science. It is located in a greenhouse on the waterfront with a nice view over Amsterdam. It is not a vegan restaurant, but they do have a lot of vegan options (on some evenings all vegan) and many vegetables come from their own greenhouse.

#244 Great vegan pizza with homemade vegan cheeze at Dolce Pizza y Los Veganos, Barcelona

restaurant review #244 – Dolce Pizza y Los Veganos is a vegetarian restaurant in the city center of Barcelona. It is located between the Gracia area and the Sagrada Familia (at the end of the Passeig de Sant Joan parc). Vegan options are clearly noted, and it was very hard choosing from so many options on the menu. Not used to having so much choice!

#230 Two vegan pizzas at Otomat, Brussels

restaurant review #230 – Otomat is part of a chain of restaurants in Belgium. We had already visited the Otomat in Bruges a couple of weeks before and liked it (see review here). We went to a concert at the Ancienne Belgique a couple of weeks ago, and decided to have pizza at Otomat before going to the show. It is located at the Oude Graanmarkt, not far from De Beurs / La Bourse. There are two vegan pizzas standardly available: the dirty vegan (a new pizza) and Las Vega.

#218 Two vegan pizzas from Domino’s, Bruges

restaurant review #218 – Domino’s is part of an international pizza chain. There are also several locations in Belgium. The Domino’s in Bruges is located just outside the train station. Domino’s is not a restaurant for elaborate dining, but more a take away place (there are a handful of seating places, and also a small terrace outfront). Domino’s also offers delivery in the Bruges area. Since 2018, Domino’s has two vegan pizzas standardly available: the pizza margaritha (12€) and the vegan spicy (13€). The pizzas were nice, but with a soft chewy crust though. They are made on the same counter as the non vegan pizzas, so if you are allergic, I think there might be cross contamination. #215 Two vegan pizzas at Otomat, Bruges

restaurant review #215 – Otomat is part of a chain of restaurants in Belgium. The one in Bruges opened in the Summer of 2018. It is in the city center, on the Simon Stevin square. We were here a couple of weeks ago for lunch, in the Fall of 2018. Otomat has two vegan pizzas standardly available, each 13,9€. One with rucola and cauliflower (mega Vega), the other with yofu espuma (Las Vega), which is more spicy. So our choice was easily made! We also ordered a salad on the side (ask without the dressing). The pizzas were nice, but if you have a huge appetite this will not be filling. It would also be nice to have some vegan minced meat on the pizza, or tofu, or seitan on top, to add some more bite. It was good for a light lunch though. It’s a pity that none of the salads or appetizers is standardly vegan (you can ask a salad without the dressing, which we did). Ground level at Otomat Brugge is accessible, …

#210 Loved the vegan pizzas at Bancale 61, Maastricht (NL)

restaurant review #210 Bancale 61 is a pizza restaurant at the edge of Maastricht. It is across the street from where vegan restaurant the Loving Hut used to be. It’s a rather small restaurant, which also offers takeaway. There are not that many seating places. There’s also a small terrace in front (with two tables). A very informal atmosphere, with benches made from wooden pallets. This is from a visit at the beginning of Summer. There are several vegan pizzas standardly available. With homemade vegan cheese (from cashews). The pizzas are ovenbaked in a woodfire oven. You can see the flames from in the restaurant. We ordered the Al Bosco and Allure pizza, each 15€. We did not have to wait long for the pizzas to be served. The crust was very nicely baked, and the pizzas tasted great. We had some leftovers and it was no problem to take the remaining piece of pizza with home with us. Service was very friendly. Toilet in the back. Through the kitchen. Was clean and tidy (no photo this time!). The only …

#201 Vegan pizza in the city center of Ostend, Pizza & Pasta Poppy’s

restaurant review #201 – Pizza & Pasta Poppy’s is a restaurant in the city center of Ostend, just a two minute walk from the main shopping street and the central square Wapenplein. It is just around the corner of the Fishers’ square (Vissersplein). If I remember correctly, there used to be a shop here that sold party costumes, theater and carnaval attributes (was it called De Schaar?). Pizza & Pasta Poppy’s is a family run restaurant, which – the name gives it away 😉 serves mainly pizzas and pasta! This review is from a visit at the beginning of August, when I visited the restaurant alone. There were several vegetarian options indicated on menu, and some options can be made vegan (with leaving out the cheese). I asked which pizza she recommened as a vegan pizza, and was suggested the pizza Poppy’s, but without the dairy cheese. I took the medium version (14€) The pizza came loaded with fresh vegetables: Although this was a medium pizza, I could not finish it! It was topped with a …

Yummie food @Vegan music festival Ieperfest

Ieperfest is a 3-day hardcore music festival, just outside Ypres (Ieper, 75km from Bruges, Belgium). Since day one, more than 20 years ago, all the food at Ieperfest is vegan! So we went to check it out on day1! To listen to some bands (a trip down memory lane for one of us!), hang out, relax, and get a general impression of the atmosphere. But especially to taste the vegan food! It’s pretty rare to find vegan food at a music festical, so to have all catering fully vegan (and most of it organic too) is really extraordinary! Not having to ask whether the fries are baked in vegetable oil, being able to order food without worrying about hidden ingredients! What a relief! And plenty of choice too! Vegan food catering at Ieperfest: This is what we ate at Ieperfest: For refreshments, there’s of course plenty of beer available, but it’s nice you can also drink organic apple or orange juice (2€). And Koek & Zopie offers a variety of organic coffees. Unfortunately, the rain came pooring down several times, turning the festival grounds …
