#182 Lunch menu at restaurant/hotel Lof, Gent (2)

restaurant review #182 – Lof is the restaurant in Sandton Grand Hotel Reylof, in the center of Ghent (about 10 min walk from Korenmarkt). This review is from a visit a couple of months ago, at the start of 2018. We had visited Lof previously with friends, a bit more than a year ago. And had some mixed feelings about that visit: the food was nice, but the service was somewhat erratic, for as a restaurant profiling itself for offering a vegan menu, it was somewhat disappointing that they did not pay attention to some ‘details’ (like vegan butter, no vegan chocolates with coffee) (see my previous review of Lof here). We were here for a Saturday lunch with family. We arrived in the lobby at about 12.15, and were not allowed to enter the restaurant (it opens at 12.30) and only got a rather annoyed ‘no you can’t enter the dining room‘ reply. And so we just stood there. Had to ask where we could wait then, and the waiter pointed towards the lounge area. It …

#69 The Dutch Weedburger at Novotel, Bruges **

Restaurant review #69 – A couple of weeks ago, we went for dinner to the restaurant of the Novotel hotel in Bruges. Since a couple of months, most (or maybe all?) Novotel restaurants in Belgium serves the famous Dutch weedburger (no it has nothing to do with that ‘weed’, it is made from seaweeds ;-). Yeah! We have tasted the Dutch weedburger before on several occasions (see for example here in Texel) and are very happy that this specialty is now also available in Bruges! EDIT (2017): The Dutch Weedburger is no longer available at Novotel! I inquired beforehand with the reception of Novotel to be sure that the Dutch Weedburger is indeed available, and if we could get a vegan menu for two (explaining what we do and don’t eat). No problem. So a couple of weeks ago, we headed out to the Novotel. The restaurant is downstairs in the lobby of the hotel. It’s a very spacious place, with the hotel bar situated in the middle. It looks very modern and stylish, but it didn’t really give us …

#41 Indonesian ricetable at hotel/resto Opduin, De Koog (Texel, NL) ***

Restaurant review #41 – Texel is an island north west of Amsterdam. There are only a handfull of small villages on Texel, but the island is very touristic, so there are quite a lot of hotels and restaurants. Not that much options for vegans though. In another blogpost, I’ll give our vegan view on Texel, and places where you can have a vegan meal (and also some restaurants that replied they can’t fullfill our vegan needs). We were at Texel for the weekend, and on one of those days, we dined at restaurant Opduin in De Koog, a very small town on the west side of the island. Every Saturday evening, restaurant Opduin serves an Indonesian rice table (besides the regular menu). I had inquired in advance if we could get a vegan Indonesian ricetable (explaining what we do and don’t eat) and got confirmation. So we made a reservation. When arriving at the restaurant, the waitress said she was told it would be difficult to get a vegan ricetable. Duh? I told her I had gotten confirmation beforehand and asked …
