#370 – Mixed feelings, vegan resto New Vegas, Haarlem (NL)

restaurant review #370 – New Vegas is a vegan restaurant in the city center in Haarlem (the Netherlands). It is located just at the corner of the main square. I visited twice for dinner in the Summer of 2022, when I spent a couple of days in Haarlem after a show of Pearl Jam in Amsterdam (which was awesome! see video below and more on my You Tube!)

Mixed feelings about my visits to New Vegas:

➡️➡️ Positive: I liked the food. Although a bit on the expensive side (but it is a touristic hotspot and near the market). I had the ‘shrimps’ in ‘oystersauce’ and on another occasion the royale burger with cheese (both 16,95€). As appetizer bitterballen (6,95€).
And a great location near the market. I suspect many non-vegan tourists take a seat here, and so can discover nice vegan food!

But …
➡️➡️ I was extremely disappointed to see several terrace heaters, with petrol, burning on the terrace. In the middle of Summer!! It was 19-20 degrees and a lovely Summer evening!! (Even in Winter I think these things are horrible). I mean, who cares about the climate anyway 😞 . In a vegan restaurant no less …
I made a remark about it, and the heater closest to me was turned down a little bit.
Just remove these polluting monsters!

I further wanted to inquire about the blankets on the chairs, as I suspect they may contain wool? But didn’t bother anymore as they already seemed annoyed by my remark about the heaters.

Service was mixed, friendly, but also a bit witty. And their enthusiasm seemed to have dropped after my remark about the heaters.

Very spacious terrace, but very limited seating inside. Not accessible, steps, and high stool bar seating in one side inside. And the toilet is so small one can hardly turn around in it.

Pros: Nice vegan food, Large terrace, city center

Cons: Petrol heaters- who cares about the climate anyway, Not accessible, Limited inside seating
