restaurant review #315 – Cultuurcafé De Grote Post is a restaurant located in the former postal office of Ostend – now a cultural center. This review is from a visit a couple of months ago.

It had been several years since I visited (see REVIEW) and was happy to see they now offer vegan dishes standardly on the menu (and labeled as such). And even a vegan dessert (panacota) Yeah!

There were also some suggestion written on a chalkboard, a veggie curry and noodles with tofu. We inquired whether they were vegan (no milk, no eggs?) and the waiter said they were, and we ordered those. A couple of minutes later he came back to inform us they contain fish sauce, so not vegan (and not veggie neither!).
So always good to double check!
So we ordered the pasta with cream sauce (18€), and the falafel (20€). Didn’t have to wait long for our food. Swift service, also for the drinks.

Both nice dishes, the pasta was very spicy. The falafels were nice.
Original varied dishes. Nice to see some other vegan dishes offered than the ‘burgers and sweet potato fries’ which are becoming rather ubiquitous.
A bit on the expensive side, but I guess the location plays into this.

Nice interior. I remember when this was the post office and I stood in line to buy stamps …
Bonus for being fully accessible (acces via entrance at the side – elevator) + accessible toilet.
