#173 La Trocadero, vegan fastfood near Sagrada Familia, Barcelona

restaurant review #173 La Trocadero is a vegan fastfood self service bar near the Sagrada Familia. You order food at the counter, then go pick up your food at the counter (number called out in Spanish or Catalan). And one is expected to clean up after finished. We went here for lunch, after our visit to the Sagrada Familia. (More reviews of Barcelona HERE). The menu is shown on TV screens above the counter. There’s an English explanation, and photos of the dishes next to it. The girl serving at counter was a bit rude, and not very welcoming. She hardly spoke any English, but we managed to place our order. La Trocadero is not for elaborate dining and wining. It is fastfood: burgers and hotdogs. No alcohol served, except some rootbeer. The place seems newly renovated and seems very hip and modern. Very simple furniture though, but very creative (with vegetable boxes). There was retro stuff as decoration, like old televisions and radios. A very colourful interior. We had a notdog (3,75€), onionrings (3,90€), a …

#161 Vegan burgers and more at Flooh’s, Roeselare

restaurant review #161 – Flooh’s is a burger – fastfood type restaurant in the city center of Roeselare. Flooh’s has several vegan options (or vegetarian dishes that can easily be veganised) standardly available. We were here a couple of weeks ago for lunch. The ground level isn’t really big with the counter (where you order) and some bar stools to sit at, but besides that, the restaurant has two upstairs floors , with plenty of seating places. It’s a nicely renovated place, bright and modern interior. Vegan options are indicated on the large chalkboard at the counter. One standard vegan burger (the Bizarro), and three that can be veganised. Fries are baked seperatedly, in vegetable oil. Bread buns were said to be vegan (brown or white bun option). The lady running the place was very knowledgeable about ingredients and what vegan means, as she said to be vegan herself. Which was reassuring! We placed our order and went upstairs, to the second floor. Our food was said to be brought to the table (good thing, …

#153 Burgers at Loving Hut Veganerie, Louvain (3)

restaurant review #153 – The Loving Hut Veganerie is a vegan restaurant in Leuven (Louvain, close to Brussels) and part of the international chain of Loving Hut restaurants. There is also a smaller Loving Hut restaurant in Louvain (just around the corner!), and next to those two Belgian Loving Hut restaurants, there is also the Viva Vega! Loving Hut Express, a fast food truck which you can encounter at festivals and other events (for example at Vegan Summer Fest). There are already several reviews of Loving Huts we have visited up on the blog (see here). This is from a visit to the Loving Hut Veganerie in Leuven a couple of months ago. The Loving Hut Veganerie is more of a fastfood place.  One orders at the counter, and then an electronic device lets you know when your order is ready. Menu also consists of mainly ‘fastfood’ items, like burgers and wraps, and side dishes like potatoe wedges. This was our lunch: a smokey BBQ burger (9€), 1 chicky cheezy (9€), potato wegdes (3,50€), with veganaise, calamares (3,80€) …

#127 Burgers for lunch at Greenway, Louvain (2)

Restaurant review #127 – Greenway is a Belgian vegetarian brand (restaurants and products) and was founded in the mid nineties. There are three Greenway restaurants in Belgium: in Ghent (it’s been ages since I was there!), in Louvain (see blog) and in Antwerp (see blog). There’s also a Greenway foodstall at the train station of Gare du Midi, where we had a nice lunch before boarding on the Eurostar to London (see our blog here). This review is from a visit to the Greenway in Louvain in Spring of 2017. Greenway is in the city center, a short walk from the town hall and near the ‘old market’ place. It’s a nicely decorated place, lots of space, modern style. There are also some outdoor seating places in front of the restaurant. Vegan options are indicated on the menu and on the large board on the wall, where the daily suggestions are written. Service at Greenway is semi self-service: one orders and pays at the counter, taking your drinks to the table yourself, and then food is brought …

#101 Waiting for the Eurostar. Nice fastfood lunch at Greenway, train station Brussels

Restaurant review #101 – Reminder – GIVEAWAY to celebrate 100 restaurant reviews & 3 years The Bruges Vegan. Greenway is a Belgian vegetarian brand (restaurants and products) and was founded by Paul Florizoone in the mid nineties. The first Greenway restaurant opened in Ghent in 1996 and I vividly remember it opening at that time (I worked nearby and was thrilled!). Meanwhile there are three Greenway restaurants in Belgium (Ghent, Louvain and Antwerp) and a take-away/foodstall at the railway station of Bruxelles-Midi. I already blogged about the Greenway in Louvain and the Greenway in Antwerp. We stopped for lunch at the Greenway in the train station of Brussels on our way to Vegfest London (see our blog, with also a review of lectures from the intersectionality Conference HERE). We had some spare time before boarding the Eurostar to London, and were a bit anxious whether we would get any (decent) vegan food on the train ride to London, so decided to have something to eat at Greenway beforehand. Vegan options are clearly indicated on the menu. You order at the counter, …
