restaurant review #237 – Pele Surf Shack is an all vegan beach place. It opened in the Spring of 2019. From the parking area, it’s about a 5-10 minute walk to the beach. Then at the end, Pele Surf Shack is on your left.
We were here for lunch in May.
Pele Surf Shack is a nice spacious place, with tropical vibes. It also has a large outdoor terrace, looking at the beach and the sea. It was still a bit too chilly to sit outdoors (and windy), so we sat inside.
We ordered edamame beans (4€) and the Mermaid Burger and the Big Kahuna Burger (each 14€), and vegan ‘shrimp’ (3,5€). The burgers came with fries.
We had expected to get the edamame beans as a sort of appetizer snack, but everything was served together (note to self: always specifiy this, as this has happened to us before in the Netherlands).
The food was nicely presented. The Kahuna burger was a good ‘meaty’ burger, the mermaid burger more like a seaweed pattty. Both were delicious.
Service was very friendly! Loved the salsa and cuban music, although it was a bit loud😉

Toilets at Pele Surf Shack, Hoek van Holland (NL). Colourful and ecclectic. Not a fan of the shells though. Toilet was basic, but clean. But with a tiny towel to dry ones hands. Why do I include a pic of the toilet? Read about it HERE

maybe something to reconsider as decoration (in a vegan restaurant): fishing nets on celing, Pele Surf Shack, Hoek van Holland (NL)
Note about accessibility; as it is on the beach, an the entrance goes over sand, it is not wheelchair accessible (also didn’t notice an accessible toilet).
All in all: great to have an all vegan beach place! If this was any closer to home, I’m sure we would be regular customers.
