#272 Light lunch at Meatless District (Da Costa), Amsterdam (NL)

restaurant review #272 – Meatless District is a vegan restaurant in the city center of Amsterdam (the Netherlands). This review is from a restaurant visit in 2019, so before the lockdown measures due to the COVID19 pandemic started. There are two location of Meatless District, one in the soutside of town, and this one in the Da Costa neighbourhood, on the west side of town. We were here for lunch on a weekday. As it was a hot Summer day, we sat on the terrace, in front of the restaurant. Unfortunately it’s a very busy road, with busses and cars driving by instantly.

#267 Indonesian ricetable at Bali James, Breda (NL)

restaurant review #267 – This review is from a visit to Bali James in 2019 (before the lockdown and COVID19measures). Although it’s from a long time ago, I still like to post it for archival reasons for myself, as I like to have the photos and impressions on my blog! Bali James is an Indonesian restaurant (well the name does give it away!) in Breda, the Netherlands. Breda is just across the border from Belgium, not so far from Antwerp. The restaurant is just outside, but within walking distance from the city center. There are plenty of Indonesian restaurants in The Netherlands (given the historical link with the country), but unfortunately they are a rarity in Belgium. So whenever we are in the Netherlands, we try to go to an Indonesian restaurant, because they always have vegan dishes availble, and we love the cuisine!

#258 Light lunch at Schenkers, Apeldoorn (NL)

restaurant review #258 – Schenkers is a café/restaurant in the city center of Apeldoorn. It is a cosy place, with a very large terrace. We were here a couple of months ago in Summer, during our holiday in the Netherlands. It was a nice Summer day, not too hot, not too cold, and we sat outside on the large terrace next to the restaurant. Schenkers has a handful of vegan options standardly available. Although the two girls serving the place were working as fast as they could (and were very friendly) ordering and serving (for all in all rather simple dishes) took quite a while. So I think they are understaffed. The vegan bitterballen, which we ordered as an apptizer with our drinks, came together with the main dishes. The burger came in a slice of bread, which was a bit disappointing. It tasted good though. The falafel bowl was nice. All very reasonably priced (cheap actually). The restaurant room is wheelchair accessible. Didn’t see a wheelchair accessible toilet. The toilet was basic, but clean. …

#252 Pizza with a view: Mediamatic ETEN, Amsterdam (NL)

restaurant review #252 – Mediamatic ETEN is the restaurant of Mediamatic Biotoop, an arts center organising lectures, workshops and art projects, focusing on nature, biotechnology and art+science. It is located in a greenhouse on the waterfront with a nice view over Amsterdam. It is not a vegan restaurant, but they do have a lot of vegan options (on some evenings all vegan) and many vegetables come from their own greenhouse.
