restaurant review #487 – Vegan restaurant a bit outside of the touristy center. Was here for dinner in the Spring of 2024. The name ‘Vegane Glorie’ has a double meaning. Of course Vegan refers to the plantbased aspect. But ‘vegane glorie’ gives a hint to the Dutch saying of ‘vergane glorie’, meaning fading glory, something that was glorious in the past. Mmmm. A bit strange to choose that for your restaurant name when you consider it like that… đ (maybe I’m missing something here, do let me know đ
restaurant reviw #472 – Another vegan restaurant! Had lunch here on a weekday. It was a sunny day, so we sat on the terrace in front of the restaurant. It’s in a rather quiet smaller street, so not that much traffic, which was nice.
restaurant review #458 – Vegan pizza restaurant !! đđđ This place is in the touristy city center, so quite busy. Not very big. We had made a reservation – all tables were occupied, still seatings available though at the high bar stools in front area. Lots of choice on the menu!!We had the ‘you bac*n me crazy’ and ‘the garden’. Both 14,95⏠(reasonably priced, given the location). It took quite a while before our order was taken and the pizzas were served. Staff spoke English, no Dutch. Decent size pizzas. The center bottom of the crust was quite soggy though, so you couldn’t eat a piece by hand, not firm enough. ‘The garden’ was ok, the ‘bacon’ pizza monotone. đ And the virgin mojito was also more water/ice than flavour⌠So all in all: had higher expectations. Wouldn’t really go back. Of course great to have an all vegan pizza restaurant, but could be way better. Not accessible: step to get in. Front area of restaurant is with some high bar chairs, back area with …
Restaurant review #397 – This restaurant is right at the beach! And is part of a surfing school, so one really gets the surfing vibes here đ
restaurant review 392 – Indonesian food at De Vegetarische Toko in The Hague! Everything is vegan except for the Spekkoek (vegetarian) – (why not make it vegan? – I forgot to ask!).
restaurant review #225Â – De Vleesch Lobby is the restaurant from De Vegetarische Slager (‘the vegetarian butcher’), a Dutch brand of vegetarian and vegan products. We were at their restaurant in The Hague for lunch a couple of months ago, with friends. The restaurant is a little bit outside of the city center of The Hague. UPDATE – see below I was a bit disappointed that the lunch menu only seemed to have rather simple fastfood snack items, as opposed to the dinner menu (with more elaborate dishes). But on the other hand, we were glad to at least be able to have lunch at this restaurant, as many other restaurants seem to be closed for lunch in the Netherlands. As it is the restaurant of De Vegetarische Slager brand, all of their dish contain their products, like ‘kipstuckjes’ (‘chicken’ pieces) or ‘visvrije Mackreel’ (fishfree mackerel). Although I do like to eat their vegan range of products, I have my reservations about naming vegan products as animals or animal parts, as it consolidates an objectifying …
Restaurant review #54 – A couple of weeks ago, we were in The Hague. Den Haag or The Hague, is about a two hour drive from Bruges (210km). It is the administrative capital of the Netherlands (Amsterdam is the official capital, but parliament etc is housed in The Hague). Online, I had discovered a nice looking vegetarian restaurant which has just recently opened (in the beginning of 2015) and within walking distance from the city center: resaturant Hortus. And it seemed they had lots of vegan options. So I called the day before to make a reservation for lunch on a Sunday, which was no problem. We arrived at early noon and there were no other patrons yet. Over the years, we have discovered that not a lot of people go out for lunch in the Netherlands (as opposed to Belgium, where this is much more the case, even mid week). As noon progressed, people started to come in, and as it was a beautiful Fall day, some people also sat outside on the sunny terrace in front of the restaurant. The interior of …
Shop review #20 – Veggie4U is a vegetarian shop on the edge of The Hague, founded in 2013. The Hague is one of the larger cities of the Netherlands, and although Amsterdam is the official capital, The Hague is the political capital of the country. We only spent a couple of hours in The Hague, but it seems like a nice, relaxed town. Definitely want to visit again one day. And it is actually very close to Bruges, only about a 2 and a half hours drive away! Following our lunch at the new vegetarian restaurant Hortus (blog will follow soon!), we paid a visit to vegetarian shop Veggie4U. It is labelled a ‘supermarket’, but I would rather call it a reasonably sized store. It is a vegetarian shop and not a vegan shop, so note that not all items on the photos are necessarily vegan. They do have many vegan items though: The shop sells mainly food items, with also some body and care products. There are several freezers with many ‘meat replacers’ items, and also a large selection of vegan icecream from Professor …
