T-shirts, sweaters and more at eco-vegan shop Leeloo, Bruges

Shop review #52 – Leeloo is a clothes and accessories shop in the city center of Bruges. It is located in the Sint Jakobsstraat, which is very close to the central market. It exists since about 20 years, and has always focused on selling sustainable, eco-friendly clothing! In April 2018, Leeloo announced on their facebook page that from then on, all products at the store are animal free! Yeah! So shortly afterwards, I went to pay them a visit. The shop is well packed, with a great selection of T-shirts, pants, sweaters, …ย There are also some body and care products and some bags. The shop has a nice modern ‘urban’ look, and several mirrors give it a more spacious impression. There’s also a wall with a nice collection of stickers. I looked around for a while, and then boughts some T-shirts. The only thing that withheld me from shopping a bit longer, was the very loud techno music (I can only describe it as a mixture between house and Kraftwerk ๐Ÿ˜€ ) which was driving …

The inside of a leather jacket

Chinese artist Cao Huiย made a series of sculpturs of everyday objects that are often made of leather, like a couch, gloves, shoes or a suitcase. He also shows the inside of these objects, with organs, fat and flesh. The artistย wants to challenge the way we look at everyday objects. On the website of the Lin Lin Gallerij, Cao Hui explains: Increasingly uneasy and dissatisfied with merely describing surface appearances, artists now attempt to plumb the inner reaches of things; an agenda that apparently moves into science or other fields. It seems artists are no longer happy just being artists, but are driven by their inborn love of performance to try out new roles, such as philosopher, scientist, doctor or perhaps even engineer. According to this info the sculptures are not made with real leather nor organs, but with products like resin and fibre. The artist doesn’t seem to want to bring an animal rights message, but the images do make you think about the issue, no? Leather is not a by-product Leather or animal skin …

Veggieshop, Oostende

Shop review #7 – Veggieshop is located in the city center of Ostend, near the seaside, a 2 minute walk from the Casino Kursaal. On their website, Veggieshop says it’s a specialist dealer in vegan-eco-organic clothes, shoes and cosmetics.ย You can also buy their products through their onlineshop. The clothes available at veggieshop are mainly T-shirts and sweaters. I browsed through the T-shirts looking for one with a vegan message, but didn’t find one. Shopping for vegan shoes is not so easy in Belgian shops. There are of course several online shopsย to buy vegan shoes, butย since I findย 8 out of 10 shoesย not to be really comfortable after trying them out,ย I like to be able to fitย shoes before buying them (and sending them back through postal mail is such a big hassle). So it’s nice to see vegan shoesย on offer in Veggieshop in Ostend. Butย I was hoping to find a larger variety and selection of veganย shoes. I asked whether I could order myย size of a certain type/brand through the shop, and thenย decide to buy it after it …
