restaurant review #320 – Loving Hut is worldwide chain of vegan restaurants. They can either be small lunch places, take away restos or full size restaurants, depending on the local manager. We have visited many branches of Loving Hut restaurants over the years, in Leuven, Brighton, New York, Maastricht, … What they all have in common is they don’t serve any alcohol, and they follow or are inspired by ‘Supreme Master’ Ching Hai.
We have no interest in the latter, but only go for the vegan food!

We were at the Loving Hut in Louvain-la-Neuve for lunch on a weekday. As we are not from the area, we had trouble finding the place and were searching for it on the square. Turned out that it is inside the shopping mall (we had missed it as the street sign for the Loving Hut was blocked from our sight by a van!).

Had the curry and ‘scampis’ (11€) and the cheese burger (7€). With onion rings (3,50€) and rostis (2,40€).
Afterwards we couldn’t resist a piece of pie (3,5€) and a cupcake (3,8€).

There is very limited seating space (8 places – at two tables) so we were lucky to be there just as it opened at noon and could take a seat.

The food was great, the service was very friendly, but the setting is not so nice. It is near the entrance of the shopping mall, with automatic sliding doors constantly zooming (open shut – open shut) and many people passing by your table.
The shopping mall and restaurant is wheelchair accessible.
No toilet at the restaurant (maybe there was in the mall, didn’t go looking).
All in all: We had a nice lunch. Cheap. Friendly. Not so cosy.

We just went back to our local Loving Hut and had a very good experience. Not much for atmosphere, but food is always amazing.
