A look inside shop Holland & Barrett, Bruges

Shop review #51 – Holland & Barrett is an international Chain (UK based) with also several shops in Belgium and the Netherlands. Holland & Barrett sells “a wide range of vitamins, minerals, health supplements, specialist foods and natural beauty products.” (taken from their website). There is also a Holland & Barrett shop in Bruges, in the Noordzandstraat (not far from ‘t Zand and the Dweersstraat).  I only recently discovered that H&B have a decent range of vegan labelled body and care products (e.g. shampoo, bath and shower wash, toothpaste, face cream), and now regularly do some shopping there. They also have some food items (nuts, special flours), and a wide range of vitamines and other supplements (vegan vitamine D for example). Here are some more pics from inside the Holland & Barrett in Bruges. #111 Snack at Le Touquet, Ostend

Restaurant review #111 – Le Touquet is a restaurant (brasserie style) on the beach promenade of Ostend. I had seen comments on social media that Le Touquet offers vegan snacks, like spaghetti and croques (toasted bread with vegan cheese, etc) and also vegan pancakes. We had already taken a look inside one afternoon when in Ostend hoping to have a pancake, but at that time the place was nearly packed (and very crowded and noisy) and as such we did not fancy taking a seat. A couple of months ago we were in Ostend again for a concert in the nearby Casino Kursaal. We had planned on eating homemade sandwiches after visiting family in Ostend, before going to the show. Helas, we forgot our sandwiches at home! So we headed over to Le Touquet, hoping to have a quick snack. (I did not have my camera with me, so the food photos are just from my mobile, and have poor lighting, sorry about that). The menu lists several vegan options, like vegan tostis (with Wilmersburger cheese) We ordered a tosti …

Shopping at GoVeg vegan shop, Liège

Shop review #32 – Goveg is a vegan shop in city center of Liège (in the south of Belgium, 200 km from Bruges). We had already got to know this shop during Vegan Summerfest in Ghent last year (see review here). We planned a trip to Liège to visit the Human Zoos exposition in La Cité Miroir (more about this very interesting exhibition in a later blogpost!) so this was a perfect occasion to do some shopping at GoVeg. The Goveg vegan shop is nor far from restaurant Como en Casa (actually in the same street), where we had lunch (review will follow). The shop is not really big, but it is packed with the ‘usual suspects’: body and care products, soy chuncks, vegan shoes, grains, nuts, jam, cereals, chocolate, etc. Also several coolers with vegan cheezes, sausages, pizza, burgers, etc. I was happy to find a pack of ‘vegan eggs’ from Follow Your Heart, which I quite like to eat scrambled! And also the vegan caviar that I had discovered first in Ghent and later also bought at …

#44 We loved the Dutch weedburger at Paal9, Texel (NL)! ***

Restaurant review #44 – Yes, there is a place on Texel* where you can get a vegan burger! It’s the famous Dutch weedburger and it’s being served at beachpaviljoen number 9, near Den Hoorn. Obviously, we did not want to miss this! The Beach house is located in the dunes on the south west shore of the island Texel. We were there for lunch on a Saturday, and could easily get a spot outlooking the North Sea. There was a fierce western wind coming straight from the North Sea, and there are gently glowing dunes one each side of the road. So it was quite an effort peddling up there on our tandem! There seems to be only one vegan option on the menu (maybe the vegetable croquets are also vegan, but we didn’t verify). So beware it is not a vegan restaurant, there are many meat options on the menu. This was actually the first restaurant we saw croquettes of geese (ganzenkroketten) on the menu. We ordered the Dutch weedburger with fries, and it was yummie! And …
