About the pornography of Meat, Carol J. Adams

This new edition of The Pornography of Meat by Carol J. Adams just arrived. Very richely illustrated with examples of how women are seen as ‘meat’ and how ‘meat’ or animals raised to be eaten are portrayed as ‘feminine’, sexual, wanting to be consumed. See also the earlier work of Carol J. Adams: The sexual politics of meat. This updated edition of The Pronography of Meat includes a photo from me: a truck from a hatchery company (that ‘incubates’ the eggs and the chicks are sent of to egg-laying companies). The truck shows a cartoon like drawing of three anthropomorphised and female sexualised chickens, with next to them the slogan ‘Girl Power’. Yeah, being forcefully kept indoors, having to lay 300+ eggs a year and being sent of to slaughter when ‘production’ drops is really empowering these female animals. I really cringed when I saw this truck on the highway, and was determined to get a good photo! Luckily, the truck took the same exit as me, so I was able to stand still next …

#198 Quick lunch at vegan feminist center La Raposa, Barcelona

restaurant review #198 – La Raposa is a vegan feminist community center (with book store) and bar/resto, near Parc Mont Juic in Barcelona (more reviews of Barcelona HERE). This is from a visit to La Raposa a couple of months ago (beginning 2018). We visited after going to nearby Parc Mont Juic. There are not a lot of vegan (friendly) places in the area, so we were excited to visit this vegan feminist meeting bar/place! Yeah! Our enthousiasm was a bit tempered after entering though. The menu is written on chalkboard next to bar (in Spanish – or Catalunyan). We were addressed in Spanish (or Catalunyan), and as we didn’t understand, asked whether they spoke English, but got a rather annoyed roll of the eyes and sigh back. In our best Spanish-ish, we did manage to order some drinks and hummus and a plat du jour, which was with pasta. The burger was not available that day. The food was very nice (and cheap). The hummus came with bread and some crackers. The plat du jour was not a …

Graduation day video: to the zoo, the rodeo, or …. ?

This is undoubtedly one of the stangest videos I have seen in a long time! The scene is a graduation class in Japan, where students receive their diploma. Otherwise I won’t give any spoilers, my comments are below. Just watch it for yourself first! (note: there are no animals used in this video, and no images of animal abuse). Graduation class of 2014 It’s a very special day, the first day of a new journey: the students receive their ‘diplomas’ and hear their final destination, the job they have to do. This is what they’ve worked for all these years. “But an end is also a beginning” is the thought of a girl graduate, central in the video. The nose rings already lead to suspect they are not just ordinary students. Indeed, we learn it’s the graduation ceremony of the ‘cattle of 2014’. One graduate’s destination is Yamada farm, another one is off to a Rodeo Park in Texas. The graduates are not called out by their name, but by their number. The girl that was reassured by her friend that she will …
