Enter the vegan world of Un Monde Vegan, Paris

Shop review #36 – Un Monde vegan is a vegan shop in the center of Paris, on the north side of Le Marais. We paid them a visit during our city trip in Paris, in June. It is a reasonably sized shop, comparable to the size of organic stores like Biovita and Originโ€™O in Belgium. Un Monde Vegan is stacked with vegan goodies, from the usual suspects like plant milks and vegan burgers, but also books, icecream, cheezes and cosmetics. It is so exciting but also relaxing to look around in an all vegan shop. Not having to check labels to see whether any goods contain animal products (which seems to have become second natureย ๐Ÿ˜‰ย ! We had the same feeling when we visisted the vegan shop Veganz in Vienna. We couldn’t do any real shopping, as we were with our tandem bike. But we did buy some drinks, as it was a very hot day in Paris! Here are some more pics of Un Monde Vegan, which give you an idea of what they have …

GIVEAWAY! 3 year blog anniversary and 100 resto reviews

Threeย years ago, at the end of 2013 between Christmas and New Year, Iย started The Bruges Vegan Blog. I had already been blogging in Dutch on Graswortels (previously called Veggieleven), but decided to start an English blog to share restaurant reviews and other things vegan related with people from around the world. 3 YEAR BLOG OVERVIEW In those three years, I have published 231 posts on The Bruges Vegan. A lot ofย those posts are restaurant reviews. But there are also other posts about our garden, homemade meals in our kitchen, reviews from events like vegan festivals or lectures, and some posts about animal rights. The posts about Remembrance day (Armistice day, but not for the animals and The animal do not want our medals and statues) were shared more than thousands of times. I also posted some shop review (30 posts) and posts aboutย vegan products like vegan caviar or Danish pastry. It is rather a coincidence that the 3 year blog-anniversary coincides withย the milestone of 100 restaurant reviews (number 100 is published after this post). That …

A word or two about restaurant reviews

We have visited hundreds of restaurants over the years.ย And although we have only started this blog fairly recently (beginning of 2014) there are already quite a lot of posts with restaurant reviews on our blog. Here are some thoughtsย about restaurant reviews, and our take on the matter. #1. A restaurant review isย always a subjectiveย account A restaurant review is always a personal account. So many different subjective preferences shape the experience. As we explain in #2 we try to look at the global picture when writing a restaurant review, but even that is of course shaped by our own personal preferences and taste. #2. More than food: everything counts The food is of course the main focal point. A restaurant experience is however alsoย shaped by other factors: comfort, hygiene, service, attitude, location, accessibility, choice of vegan options, presence of non-vegan items (like leather chairs in vegetarian restaurants), … ย And a price tag that is in check with theย quality. So sometimes the vegan food may have been great, but the restaurant scores less on other points (or …

list restaurants outside Bruges

This list contains restaurants in the greater Bruges area in Flanders (and beyond), where vegans are welcome.ย For an extensive list of restaurantsย IN BRUGES, seeย this pageย in the menu section on top of our blog. At the bottom there’s also a list with restaurants that have replied to us they don’t (and won’t) serve a vegan menu. Some points to take into account: In my inquiries to know whether a certain restaurant will serve vegans, I explicitly state what vegans do and don’t eat, most often via e-mail. I ask whether it’s possible to be served a vegan menu, for two people. I repeat the info when making the reservation and when visiting the restaurant. Listed prices give you an indication, but if you want to be sure, check their website. Listed prices are without drinks. The restaurants are listed per province/city, and then there’s a list with restaurants outside Belgium. If I have written a blog about it, with a more elaborate review of our visit(s), you will find the bloglink next to it. These lists …
