restaurant review #243 – Cèpes is the restaurant of Hotel De Sterrenberg. It is located just outside the western entrance of De Hoge Veluwe, a nature reserve in the middle of the Netherlands.
restaurant review #242 – Jilles Beer and Burgers is a Belgian chain with three restaurants: one in Bruges, Oostende and in Ghent. Since a couple of months, Jilles has a seperate vegan menu. Yeah! The menu lists four vegan burgers: all the same hazelnutburger, with different extras. We visited a couple of weeks ago, as we wanted to try the new vegan burger before going to a show in the neighbouring Kursaal. We sat on the terrace. And waited. And waited. And waited … It took about 25 minutes before a waiter came to simply give us a menu.
restaurant review 241 – Veggieburger by Biocenter is a vegetarian restaurant in the food court of a shopping mall in Barcelona. It doesn’t really sound attractive, but these burgers were some of the best we ever had! Veggieburger by Biocenter is located near the Poblenou district (Avenu Diagonal) close to the University where we went to the conference of the European Association of Critical Animal Studies. The food court is located in the basement (-1 floor) and the Veggie Burger stand is on the far side, next to the meat court unfortunately. Vegan options are clearly labelled on menu.
restaurant review #240 – Nakhon Thai is located in the city center of Bruges, just 2 minutes from the central Market Square (Belfry). We were here for lunch a couple of months ago. We actually wanted to go to vegan restaurant De Brugsche Tafel, which is closeby, but unfortunately it was unexpectedly closed that day.
shop review #60 – We were wondering around the Barri Gotic area (the historical city center) in Barcelona and discovered this vegan shop by accident. What a nice discovery! Cuco Vegan fashion opened end of 2018 and has a nice collection of bags, backpacks, wallets, purses and more.
restaurant review #239 – Ellis Gourmet Burger is part of a chain of restaurants, with several locations in Belgium and the Netherlands. We had been to the Ellis in Louvain before and had the beet the roots burger then (see reviews of Ellis Gourmet Burger here). Since then, another vegan burger has been added to the menu: the Beyond Meat burger, so on this visit to the EGB in Bruges, we wanted to try the Beyond Meat burger.
Shop review #59 – La Besnéta is a little bakery in the Gracia area in Barcelona.
Beasts of Burden, Animal and Disability Liberation, by Sunaura Taylor is a must read for anyone interested in the intersections between ableism and speciesism and disability studies and critical animal studies. There is an in detail review on Crip Humanimal, written by Chloë Taylor.
restaurant review #238 – Jardin is a cosy little place in the center of Goes (Zeeland, NL), just near the market. It opened in the Spring of 2019. There are three vegan options: the sandwich with hummus, a vegan salad, and a vegan bowl. We took the sandwich and the bowl. The hummus is homemade, and was very nice. The bowl came with white sticky rice, and vegetables / sprouts (and some avocado too).
