#320 Nice fast lunch at Loving Hut, Louvain La Neuve

restaurant review #320 – Loving Hut is worldwide chain of vegan restaurants. They can either be small lunch places, take away restos or full size restaurants, depending on the local manager. We have visited many branches of Loving Hut restaurants over the years, in Leuven, Brighton, New York, Maastricht, … What they all have in common is they don’t serve any alcohol, and they follow or are inspired by ‘Supreme Master’ Ching Hai. We have no interest in the latter, but only go for the vegan food!

#193 The Last dinner at Loving Hut, Maastricht (NL)

restaurant review #193 – Loving Hut is an international chain with vegan restaurants all over the world. There are already several reviews of Loving Huts we have visited up on my blog (see here). Every restaurant has its unique style and menu, and depends a lot on who is running the place (ranging from fastfood burgers and hotdogs to more elaborate menus). The Loving Hut in Maastricht was at the edge of the city. I’m writing ‘was’ since it closed at the end of June 2018. We had already visited the Loving in Hut in Maastricht five years ago and wanted to return during our holiday break in the area. There was an announcement at the door stating that the restaurant was closing in a couple of days time due to the retirement of owner and chef. So we were lucky to have enjoyed a dinner there a last time! Loving Hut Maastricht had a very extensive menu, with lots of mock ‘meat’ and mock ‘fish’. The cuisine was Asian inspired (Chinese would be my best guess). They …

#153 Burgers at Loving Hut Veganerie, Louvain (3)

restaurant review #153 – The Loving Hut Veganerie is a vegan restaurant in Leuven (Louvain, close to Brussels) and part of the international chain of Loving Hut restaurants. There is also a smaller Loving Hut restaurant in Louvain (just around the corner!), and next to those two Belgian Loving Hut restaurants, there is also the Viva Vega! Loving Hut Express, a fast food truck which you can encounter at festivals and other events (for example at Vegan Summer Fest). There are already several reviews of Loving Huts we have visited up on the blog (see here). This is from a visit to the Loving Hut Veganerie in Leuven a couple of months ago. The Loving Hut Veganerie is more of a fastfood place.  One orders at the counter, and then an electronic device lets you know when your order is ready. Menu also consists of mainly ‘fastfood’ items, like burgers and wraps, and side dishes like potatoe wedges. This was our lunch: a smokey BBQ burger (9€), 1 chicky cheezy (9€), potato wegdes (3,50€), with veganaise, calamares (3,80€) …

#120 Fast food dinner at Loving Hut Veganerie, Louvain (2)

Restaurant review #120 – The Loving Hut Veganerie is a vegan restaurant in Leuven (Louvain, close to Brussels) and part of the international chain of Loving Hut restaurants. There is also a smaller Loving Hut restaurant in Louvain (just around the corner!), and next to those two Belgian Loving Hut restaurants, there is also the Viva Vega! Loving Hut Express, a fast food truck which you can encounter at festivals and other events (for example at Vegan Summer Fest or Fair Festival). We already posted a review of The Loving Hut Veganerie in the beginning of 2016 (see restaurant review #60). The Loving Hut Veganerie is a fastfood type restaurant, with self service: one orders at the counter, where you get an alarm device that notifies you when your order is ready and you get go pick it up at the counter. Afterwards one is supposed to put the trays and trash away. The menu consists of fastfood style dishes, ranging from burgers to wraps, but there are also salads available. There are also several vegan …

#117 Nice lunch at Loving Hut Classic, Louvain

Restaurant Review #117 – The Loving Hut is an international chain of vegan restaurants. We have visited several Loving Huts over the years (in New York, Brighton, Maastricht and Louvain) and despite all holding the same name (and serving no alchol), the cuisine and setting of the respective restaurant varies enormously. This Loving Hut was the first one of two Loving Huts in Louvain (see a review of the other one here), and opened a couple of years ago. I think it was in 2010. We have visited it several times over the years (see also some pics on my Dutch blog Graswortels of a visit way back in 2011 here), but now it had been a while since we last had lunch there. The Loving Hut Classic is near the city center, just a 5 minute walk from the City Hall or the Rector de Somerplein. One thing that immediately caught our eye is that the very uncomfortable white stools have made room for chairs! Yeah! Although still not the most comfy chairs, these are …

#60 Fast food lunch at the Loving Hut Veganerie, Leuven ***

Restaurant review #60 – The Loving Hut Veganerie is a new vegan place in Leuven (Louvain, close to Brussels) and part of the international chain of Loving Hut restaurants. It opened in 2015. There was already another Loving Hut restaurant in Louvain (just around the corner!), and next to those two Loving Hut restaurants, there is also the Viva Vega! Loving Hut Express, a fast food truck which you can encounter at festivals and other events (for example at Vegan Summer Fest or Fair Festival). UPDATE – see below Louvain has quite some options for vegans! The Loving Hut Veganerie is the third all vegan restaurant in town (the other ones are the first Loving Hut and Vegaverso), and is just around the corner from vegan shop SHAVT. Although the Veganerie it is not really a restaurant. The menu consists mainly of burgers and other typical fastfood things, and it is self service (you order at the counter, and after notification that your food is ready, you can go pick it up). Our photos and review is from two visits: in …

#59 Fastfood lunch at the Loving Hut in Brighton (UK) ***

Restaurant review #59 – I’ve already posted several reviews of the restaurants we went to in Brighton during our mini break there this Summer (there is still one more to come!). Brighton has a large collection of vegan eateries and restaurants with vegan options. There are also two Loving Huts in Brighton, vegan restaurants that are part of an international chain. One of those Loving Huts is located in Gardner street, which is in the main shopping area of the city. And it is right across from the shop ‘Vegetarian Shoes‘, which I blogged about here. We were in the shopping area of Brighton on a Saturday, and the street was made into a pedestrain zone, with terraces in front of cafés and pubs. The weather was beautiful, so it was a nice atmosphere! We sat outside on the terrace of the Loving Hut to have a fastfood lunch! This was the menu: This is what we had. To start with, we shared a mixed platter: some soy chunks, spring rolls, … (£6,95). The special of the day was a pie with …

100+ vegan burgers for International Hamburger Day!

As International Hamburger Day or World Vegan Burger Day was coming up, I thought of making a compilation of some of the vegan burgers we have eaten over the years to celebrate! Yes, #veganseatburgerstoo ! I hoped I would find a handful of vegan burgers for this post … turns out, I found 100 burgers! 🙂 And no, we don’t eat this every day 😉 I went back to posts from the beginning years of this blog, back to 2014! There are burgers from restaurants and food stalls in Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, Spain and Austria. And a handful of homemade burgers too. The photos are just in random order, and with a link to the review of the restaurant or the event. There you can read whether we liked them or not 😉 I took all of these photos myself, but got some help from my husband in eating them 😉

Impressions from Ieperfest 2019. Vegan hardcore music festival

Ieperfest is a 3-day hardcore music festival, just outside Ypres (Ieper, 75km from Bruges, Belgium). Since day one, more than 20 years ago, all the food at Ieperfest is vegan! In previous years, the festival was mid August, but this year it has been set to the beginning of July. We just went for the afternoon, to taste some of the great food, and enjoy the atmosphere. The weather was mild (not too hot, not too cold) and luckily no showers when we were there.
